 Brief Description |
| |
| The patient, a 30 year old male, was bed ridden after falling out of a tree intoxicated and fracturing his lumbar vertebra. While lying in bed, he developed a rash over his back and neck, which was diagnosed to be Tinea Versicolor (a.k.a. Pityriasis Versicolor). Tinea versicolor (a.k.a. Pityriasis Versicolor) is a common fungal infection of the skin caused by the yeast Malassezia globossa in most cases and Malassezia furfur in some instances. These yeasts interfere with the skin’s pigmentation resulting in hypo- or hyperpigmented, finely scaly, sharp-bordered, coalescing patches. |
